NEW ALHIRA, DEMARIA/ - Bullets rang out late Thursday evening in an explosive shootout between legendary Lucky 13 heroine Ace and intergalactic terrorist Mika Tachyon! And because we've always got our fingers on the celebrity pulse, E!RN has the scoop!
Who is the mystery hunk who would tear such steadfast friends apart? Why, none other than Captain Vadim Tostanavich, owner of the newly-rebuilt Rockhopper's Haven and bonafide beefcake!
(The camera cuts to candid shots of an Ungstiri man with a five o' clock shadow drinking at an unknown locale, purchasing cigarettes at a Hancock Station duty-free kiosk, and sitting on the ramp of an unidentified black freighter.)
Our source tells us that things have been hot and heavy between the two kapitans since the tragic fall of Ungstir - that is, until a certain corsair got a load of her most trusted tovarisch's new squeeze! Unable to keep her paws off of anything that isn't hers, the Jackal snapped Tostanavich up from right under Ace's nose!
Never one to be played for a fool, the fox tracked the pair down to Demaria, where she caught them red-handed on a wild night on the town!
(Cut to footage of Mika with said Ungstiri man boozing and barhopping around New Alhira, followed by a separate clip of the clearly inebriated pair mugging for the cameras as they are ejected from Glimmercoat's by security.)
"Ace wasn't about to put up with that. She called Mika out on the landing field, then drew a gun and sicced a dog on her," says our source. "It was brutal! Mika returned fire before fleeing the scene with her new boytoy in tow!"
But don't count our beloved kapitan out yet! Eyewitnesses claim that she retreated to her ship... with her new Timonese lover! Stay tuned for our up-to-the-minute coverage of this sizzling new love affair!

INN: Rare swamp beasts sought!
HESPERIA, MARS - Martian multi-millionaire Eugene Tanks is offering a reward to anyone who can deliver three of the rare shillamarik swamp beasts from Ydahr within the next 48 hours.
"These creatures have a keen sense of smell, swift limbs, and vicious fangs," Tanks said. "They'd be perfect additions as guardians for my estate on the Isle of Theseus."

INN: Downloadable schools the future of education?
GRAND ENAJ, SIVAD - The latest innovation from Sivtek, using controversial criminal justice technology, is a "downloadable" form of education that will allow students to complete multiple master's degrees in 24 hours.
The system, known as the Univirt, is based on a simulator that let criminals convicted of felonies serve what felt like decades in prison within just a few days.
"We are confident that the Univirt will prove wildly popular in the coming years," said Lamont Heath, vice president in charge of marketing for Sivtek.

INN: Solar Republic to put presence on Hancock
With the retirement of First Consul Darian Ellesmere, the Martian government has kept very silent about its future. Today, that silence was broken with the release of a succinct statement: "The Solar Republic will establish a presence in Hancock." No more information was provided.
INN political analyst Ferdinand McAllister speculates on these events. "Clearly, they want a piece of the pie," he says. "OATO is already getting a foot in, so they'll try to stick their whole leg. After all, they probably think they have a right to New Luna."
No one from the Republic was available for comment.

INN: OATO accepts invitation
In a brief press conference today, representatives for the Orion Arm Treaty Organization expressed their interest in accepting the invitation to open offices in Hancock. "The space station will provide the Allied Force with a neutral location to carry out their work," a spokesman explains. "It will also be key in future efforts to help New Luna with rebuilding efforts, should the request for aid come."
Discussions with Krushnik Incorporated have already begun about to establish a presence in the former NLM base.

INN: Hancock plans announced!
HANCOCK STATION, NEW LUNA ORBIT - Ungstiri tycoon today Alexander Krushnik announced his plans for the recently privatised Hancock Station. In a prepared statement that was handed to the press, he stated:
"Krushnik Incorporated is opening up Hancock Station to the public. The beginnings of its refit have begun and it will be ready for the opening celebration on Sunday the 6th of July. People of all worlds are to be welcome here, to set up shops, offices and bring business to the station. Anyone who wishes to be employed as a member of the station's staff will be given a fair interview and an equal chance to succeed. Hancock Station has been returned to New Luna orbit, where it shall be found for the foreseeable future. We hope to see you soon."

INN: The Sentinel of OATO
The first vehicular member of the newly formed Allied Force has been revealed. In a conference earlier today, Eric Landis, Secretary of Press for the organization, disclosed the first images of the AFV Sentinel -- a new Allied-class battleship that will serve as the main vessel for the joint fleet.
While the Orion Arm council has yet to provide the public with the name of the elected Allied Force Grand Admiral, Secretary Landis assured reporters that information is forthcoming. In the meantime, command of the Sentinel has been awarded to a La Terre Defense Force officer, Captain Bartholomew Goddard, on a temporary basis until more official arrangements can be made.

INN: Masquerade to cruise again
Ulbahno Subcity (G'AHNLO) - The Ulbahno-based conglomerate Destiny Resorts, known for its high-class vacation spots and Ulbahno's Outlook Hotel, announced today that it has acquired the NLG Masquerade with the intention of expanding into the passenger carrier business. The Masquerade, a modified Caravan-class freighter, was operated by Carnivalis Cruise Lines until that company went bankrupt in late 3006.
"Carnivalis was unable find profit on the Masquerade, brbl, because it did not have a business plan fitting the advantages of its ship," said Bulobu, Executive Director for Cruise Line Affairs of Destiny Resorts. "The Masquerade is almost perfectly suited, brbl, for luxury passenger service between worlds. As such, Destiny Resorts plans to operate the Masquerade from a central location yet to be determined, making a regular circuit to worlds across the Orion Arm. Passengers will be able to purchase tickets from any stop to any other, brbl."
Bulobu declined to speculate on the timeframe for the Masquerade's first voyage, citing the need to refit the mothballed vessel and a competitive market for skilled passenger liner personnel.

INN: Castor stands on its own
As foreign humanitarian and security aid diminishes, Castor is coming shakily to its feet. The major challenges that remain will be addressed more directly by the Pansagia and local governments.
Vanguard soldiers from the newly formed 12th Special Forces Unit have helped with reconstruction efforts, providing security to humanitarian workers as well as assisting in the acquisition of material. The soldiers and the bandits have engaged several times, but over the months bandit activity tapered off and then abruptly ceased. After weeks of reconnaissance failed to turn up any further evidence of the outlaws, the 12th SFU was recalled to Mars on the 29th of June.
Outside civilian assistance has been likewise reduced as the Castori resume the normal functioning of society. One foreign company, Cabrerra Industries, explained that it continues to provide standard hospital supplies but does not expect to receive many more contracts for emergency supplies or security work. Another provider of aid, the medical ship Star of Mercy, indicated that its crew will be available should the need arise but that for the time being the work on Castor seems to be complete.
Local authorities seem to have matters well in hand during this transition. Continued rationing of industrial and consumer goods has thus far prevented food shortages and engineers are cautiously optimistic about the restoration of communications and transportation infrastructure. In the words of the newly-elected Ubercast Chelaben, "The people of Castor stand together. Compassion, ingenuity, and hard work will see us yet to a sweeter future."

INN: La Terre governor converts
Johanne Bryce, governor and head of the New Paris government in La Terre, was inducted today during a private ceremony into the Purist religion. Puritism, which was only very recently awarded status as a religion in the small world, has been growing exponentially during past years. INN analysts predict that, should this steady increase continue, Puritism will be the largest religion in the world of La Terre, surpassing even the New Catholic Church.
Mostly keeping to themselves as far as their spiritual practices, little is known about this religion, except for the few details that have managed to seep out and speculation based on those. It is believed they worship something or someone called the All-Source, through the guidance of their highest ranking member, the High Absolver. There are also rumors that the religion is founded on the premise of the Universe as a living entity and that the All-Source is, in fact, its Mother.
The New Paris governor refused to comment on his actions, but he follows in a long line of local politicians that have been seeking conversion these past few months.

INN: New technology on Horizons?
Argent Horizons, a private arms and technology company originally based off New Luna, has released a statement regarding what they call is a breakthrough in space travel. A spokesman for the group told INN they are in the process of finishing up a system that will allow ships to travel huge distances in a very short time. "It will most certainly replace current technology," they assert.
It is expected the work will be ready for display in a universal broadcast to take place sometime in the near future.

INN: Allied Force formed
In a move that will certainly spark controversy in all political circles, the Orion Arm Treaty Organization met today behind closed doors and voted with the full support of all member worlds for the creation of an allied fleet division that will serve apart from all other militaries and answer only to the council itself.
A spokesman for OATO revealed this measure was taken in light of the dangers that have threatened the universe as a whole in past years and the effectiveness such unions once served, not only in recent memory but as bar back as centuries ago with the Vanguard and the Consortium.
The special military, officially named the Allied Force, will be tasked with the protection of all member worlds and helping out as a neutral party if and when altercations between such members arise. Local militaries will still have jurisdiction over their respective planets unless they specifically request OATO intervention.
In celebration of this most auspicious move, OATO and Allied Force officials are expected to issue a fully equipped vessel in coming weeks to serve as flagship for the entire faction.

INN: Psionic assault source found
RADIANCE, VOLLISTA - Officials investigating the source of the psionic attack on Radiance last night have discovered a large chamber hidden deep in the tunnels of Radiance. Whilst many of the officials are withholding comment, an insider source broke ranks to anonymously speak to us.
"We had our best psi sensers on us and tracked the source of the shockwave to a large cavern. Upon entering the cavern, every single member of the group found their psionic powers amplified, a sensation that was most disturbing. We discovered two comatose Vollistans and two very confused humans who had no idea how they got there. The last thing they remember is staying at a tourist hotel elsewhere in Radiance several months ago. The Vollistans are being held under arrest in a hospital, and they will be questioned under charges of mass assault, rape, and kidnapping when they wake up. For now the cavern has been sealed off as a crime scene."
Investigations seem to be continuing.

INN: PROFILE - Alexander Krushnik
ALEXANDER KRUSHNIK is the fifty-something Ungstiri owner of Krushnik Incorporated, a interplanetary corporation that concentrated its business around Ungstir before its destruction. It was moderately successful in its day, making Krushnik comfortably rich, able to support his various business ventures. Since the destruction of Ungstir, Krushnik Incorporated has remained largely silent, as many of its employees were spread around the galaxy as they attempted to escape from the Phyrrians, and many of its assets lost.
Krushnik has what could only be described as a colourful past. He has been linked to many crime families, including the infamous Boromov family. Such rumours are of course unsubstantiated, and have never been proven true, or false.r
Since the sale of Hancock Station, Krushnik Incorporated appears to be reforming, with many of the past employees returning to the service of KI. Exactly where the money to buy Hancock Station came from is currently unknown, as it was not believed that Krushnik Incorporated had much money left in its accounts after the recent tragedy on Ungstir. Several commentators have speculated that the funds may have a connection with Krushnik's rumoured past, but no evidence has been forthcoming.
A born and bred Ungstiri, Alexander Krushnik has a twenty year old daughter, Tatiana Krushnik, fathered during his thirty year marriage to the late Gertrude Daya, who was tragically killed in a shuttle accident in 3005. Tatiana's whereabouts are currently unknown.

INN: Psionic attack?
RADIANCE, VOLLISTA - Breaking news from the Vollistan city. Some sort of psionic attack has struck the entire city, rendering many powerful psionics unconscious, and many others in a state of shock. The confused reports that are filtering out seem to suggest that no one knows what has caused it, but that it is a temporary affliction. The authorities are investigating.
INN: Vanguard statement
HESPERIA, MARS - The Vanguard released a statement today in regards to the newly sold Hancock Station to a private bidder.
"By now, many of you will be wondering what has happened behind the scenes to cause the sale of Hancock Station by the Former Government of New Luna and for it to be removed from our possession. Whilst it provided a good mobile base of operations to the Vanguard, it unfortunately was filled with old and outdated hardware."
"It was quickly decided that to upgrade this unwieldy beast of a station would not be cost effective and in fact it would have been detrimental to the Vanguard as a whole. We were informed about the sale in good time to make preparations to remove all Vanguard hardware from the base, a manoeuvre that is already most of the way to completion."
"We wish the Former Government of New Luna and Mr. Krushnik the best of luck."

INN: Hancock sold?
In a shock move, the Former Government of New Luna (FGNL) announced today that it was selling off Hancock Station to Ungstiri tycoon Alexandar Krushnik.
The true ownership of Hancock Station has been disputed since the New Luna Militia (NLM) were merged into the Vanguard (VG), but it appears that the FGNL has unearthed documents that conclusively proved that they own, or as is the case now, 'owned' the station.
In response to queries about the sale, the FGNL released a short statement: 'With the nuking of New Luna in a joint effort by the Vanguard and the RNS, our home is currently uninhabitable. With the sale of Hancock Station, a piece of hardware that was used to protect the home we no longer can live on, we will be able to develop technologies to clean up our world and live there again.'
Commentators expressed disbelief at the sale, many unable to comprehend why with the imminent threat of the Nall the Vanguard would allow such an important piece of technology to slip through their fingers.

INN: Dev minister resigns as president seeks new elections
NEW ALHIRA, DEMARIA - There was a steady stream of Administration supporters through the Demarian Planetary Senate President's office this week all carrying the same message: "We continue to support you, but we cannot vote against new elections. NADC forced our hands." For a moment it appeared that President Longvision would attempt to ride out the present troubles and wait for constitutionally mandated elections in the fall, but the erosion of support in the Senate has forced the government to abandon those plans.
President Longvision announced new elections to be held in a matter of weeks at the same time he accepted the resignation of his Development Minister. Longvision has indicated that he plans to stand for President and will actively campaign for his supporters in the Senate. No replacement for the Development Minister is expected before Longvision's government is reaffirmed or replaced.
It is widely expected that Longvision's long time Senate rival, Twinstripes Sandwalker, will oppose him in the election. However, at the moment no details about any other challengers are forthcoming. Tune in this Sunday as Sandwalker appears on our weekly news magazine, Stellar Voices.

INN: Senate furor over NADC mismanagement
NEW ALHIRA, DEMARIA - For once, Senate opposition leader Twinstripes Sandwalker was not the sole voice of outrage in the Senate this morning. Contentious hearings over the sudden collapse of the NADC did not produce any answers but allowed Senators to vent their frustrations with what they see as chronic issues of mismanagement within the Longvision government.
"How much longer," Senator Sandwalker asked Minister for Development Ebontuft Farrunner, "Must we tolerate a government that seems intent on bringing about this colony's financial ruin?" Director Stealthfoot was also present at the hearings but from the beginning Senator Sandwalker focused his questions on the Minister while Longvision's supporters probed the Director for answers.
After the heated round of business questions remain largely unanswered as to why the cornerstone of President Longvision's ATRV recovery and long-term growth policy would collapse without warning. What is clear is that the Longvision government faces a new crisis that reinforces its opponent's claim of poor judgment going back to the reaction to the costly but anti-climactic Phyrrian War. Already opposition leaders are talking about forcing elections, postponed by unanimous vote following the disruption of the Phyrrian War.

INN: New Alhira Development Corporation collapses
NEW ALHIRA, DEMARIA - Almost overnight, one of the pillars of New Alhira's financial structure failed. This morning Director Mooncollar Stealthfoot filed for bankruptcy protection after a series of bad loans left the development bank unable to continue operations. Due to ongoing investigation by the Justice and Development ministries details about the loans have not been forthcoming. A Development Ministry spokesman assured holders of NADC loans that the law prevented the state run bank from calling those loans prematurely, a factor which contributed to its collapse.

Today, it seems, they have returned - and in great force.

INN: Perseverance System now Z-23
The Perseverance system now falls under the Z-23 classification, according to the charts used by Lockstone, Smith & Thayer -- an independent firm devoted to the study of demographics and hazards in various locations of the universe.
"Essentially, this means it's a pretty dangerous place," John Thayer, senior member of the board explains. "The lack of scanning capabilities, the fact that it has become a known hive for criminal activity and the number of incidents that have been reported since the beginning of the year all point towards this." According to the system used by the firm, a Z-23 system falls merely five points beneath a ZZ-O zone -- the most dangerous specification in a chart that boasts more than a hundred levels. "We strongly advise against travel there."
Regardless of these claims, Minerali Co. continues their mining work in the area, giving employment to hundreds of Ungstiri who have lost their home after the Phyrrian assault. Furthermore, a spokesman for the HenchCorp subsidiary assures there are attempts underway to one day create special colonies so that the proud people who once lived in Perseverance can return.
Recent studies show that the misplaced Ungstiri have taken to living in small groups in various planets, mostly keeping to themselves.

INN: La Terre: Puritism now a religion
NEW PARIS, LA TERRE - Celebrations broke out in New Paris today after the La Terre senate voted in favor of recognizing Puritism as an official religion. Such a status makes the group exempt from taxes and gives them special priviledges within the small world.
A rather secretive organization, the Purists -- which have grown in number since the Birthright War -- refuse to disclose details about their religious practices. Rumors about ideals have often seeped out to the media, but none have been confirmed.
The festivities lasted a few hours and were attended even by the religion's main figure, High Absolver Robertson. Regarding this decision, he had few words to share: "Blessed are we who seek purity. We are thankful to the All-Source, and the La Terre government, for making it easier to carry out our great work."

GRAND ENAJ, SIVAD - Abermarle Stillman, inheritor of the estate of the late Peter Delarme, confirmed today that he is funding an expedition to try and contact Kip Caspar on the Kamir homeworld of Nocturn.

He declined to go into extensive details about the plans for the voyage, saying, "Mr. Harkness wants a story. I'll leave it to him to tell it once the expedition returns."

SBS: Sivad appoints new OATO rep
ENAJ, SIVAD - In a statement released earlier today, the Sivadian government announced it has appointed Sebastian Warren to the position of being the Sivadian representative for OATO.
Warren has been with the Sivadian Foreign Office for three years, the assignment to be the OATO being the first high profile position that he has taken.
"The Adrianne government chose this man exactly because he is an unknown and low profile quantity, and you can be sure that he's expected to stick very closely to the heavily Nationalist and Conservative influenced foreign policy script." political pundit Neil Cole said on Face the Media this morning.

SBS: Odari seeks post-war reconciliation
YNOS, SIVAD - Military officials have privately alleged that Odari participated actively in the opening of the Phyrrian war, but OATO investigative teams have still yet to determine what role the Odarite Merchant's Guild may have played.
Despite the heavy price the OMG has paid for its involvement, it today expressed a desire to reach out to afflicted worlds.
Today, the new Odarite Trade Minister Kz'ikzr released an official statement to the galactic press.
"Before she died, the last queen of our world left behind a clutch of eggs, among which were two queens. We are pleased to announce that both are healthy and growing, and the future of the Odarite people is assured. We deeply regret our role in the terrible events that caused the death of untold millions, and would like to fully commit ourselves to a renaissance of galactic peace and profit."
Political analysts remain skeptical about this statement, pointing out the shaky economic situation of the former merchant powerhouse.
University of Enaj economist David West suggested, "Odari can barely support itself right now, let alone anyone else- pretty words, but their money isn't where their mandibles are."

INN: La Terre recovering
NEW PARIS, LA TERRE -- After the events with the invading forces of the conquering General Savant, the small planet of La Terre has been slowly recovering. With the help of the Senate, Governor Johanne Bryce has managed to restore peace and the local economy seems once more on the rise with tourism once more a viable option. The government has also sent forth a petition to be readmitted into the Orion Arm and it is expected that given the circumstances that led to their departure that this will go smoothly.
Among other matters pending for discussion in the upcoming OATO Council meeting are the rumors of threats from rogue Phyrrian vessels and the appointing of a new Secretary General.

INN: Phyrrian war allies keep watch
The following press release was provided to INN by Dr. Nevirrea Giraliez of the ECWI Public Relations office. A Royal Naval Service spokesperson confirmed the announcement but declined further comment.
An uneasy peace has persisted since the new Phyrrian Overmind announced its intent to end hostilities and warned of three rogue warships at large under the command of the previous, damaged Overmind. While the Phyrrians have not yet responded to calls for peace talks, the allies of the Phyrrian War have today chosen to release one piece of good news.
Since late January of this year, we have been served by the watchful eyes of a new scientific project, the Long Baseline Tachyon Telescope (LBTT). This sensor array aims to make the galaxy safer for all by watching the Orion Arm for military and natural threats while still maintaining respect for the sovereignty of all nations.
This project has been made possible by a collaboration between Antimone's famous Echo Cluster Weather Institute and the Centauran Research Institute. The work together has been a long time in the making. In the words of CRI liason Ketnesqinzatbay, "The astronomers of the CRI and ECWI have long admired each other's respective accomplishments in science, but exchange of data and other cooperative efforts had in the past been somewhat limited by cultural and procedural differences." The ECWI is pleased to announce to the public that we overcame differences to protect our galaxy.

INN: Chief still missing - Council "very concerned"
FOUR CORNERS, QUAQUAN - In a surprise statement today, the Quaquan Council of Elders said that they were now "very concerned" for the wellbeing of Chief Distant Star Windchaser who has been missing for several days. The Chief took a leave from his official duties this week in order to perform a ritual Vision Quest but officials say that he is not at the location that he normally uses for his quests and they currently cannot find any traces of him. Concern is growing for his wellbeing as the Quaquan ritual involves spending time in the wilderness without food.
No comment has been made however on the students who are peacefully protesting outside the Council chambers. Calling for the council to select a new Chief in an emergency meeting, the students have issued their own statement in support of the younger Chiefs, calling the faction the "Yi Deezh'aazh" Chiefs meaning "New Moon" or "Travelling Together". INN spoke to some of the protestors
"We're not protesting, we're just showing our support for the Yi Deezh'aazh Chiefs. For too long we have faced our past and ignored the future under the hand of Chief Distant Star. It is time now to turn, and face the future and embrace it with welcoming arms."
Popular support seems to be behind this drive for modernisation, with unofficial polls showing increasing support from the people. The Council declined to comment at this time and the search for the Chief continues.

INN: Sivad de-emphasizing interstellar orgs?
Enaj, Sivad - According to a series of memos obtained by INN, the current Sivadian government is planning on deemphasizing their focus on interstellar oganizations, such as OATO as a part of their foreign policy.
"The Concordance of Free Worlds, the Interstellar Parliament, and other similar organizations have inevitably failed in the current climate, in rather short periods of time. Longer term Sivadian interests and security are best realized by independent arrangements between Sivad and other governments." One of the memos from First Councillor Adrianne's office read.

INN: Planetwide search for missing Qua chief
FOUR CORNERS, QUAQUAN - Unconfirmed reports are currently emerging that the current Quaquan Chief, Distant Star Windchaser, is missing. The Quaquan Council of Elders has issued a statement denying that the Chief of the Qua is missing and stating the he is currently away on a scheduled Vision Quest and is not expected to return for some days. High-level sources within the Council however, have said that the Chief was expected to return after only a day or two. Search parties are currently scouring the planet after an aide to the Chief raised the alarm when he discovered the Chief had left the Vision Cavern without trace, said a Council source.
This comes at a critical time for the Qua Council of Elders as a number of the Council have passed away in recent years and have been replaced by a younger generation of Chiefs. This younger faction has been promising sweeping reforms and modernisations bringing the Qua into the 31st century but have been held at bay so far by the influence of Chief Distant Star Windchaser.

SBS: Paul Moncrief's body found
Enaj, Sivad - After a morning SHIELD bust of a metzy distributing ring, an old unused section of the building was revealed to hold the remains of Paul Moncrief and subordinates.
Paul Moncrief is best known as a former First Councillor, who, in 3004, attempted to launch a coup that was ultimately unsuccessful. He was last seen in late 3006 during an assault in the Black and White Tavern, said to have teleported out after being surrounded by SHIELD.
Current speculation is that since that teleportation attempt, Moncrief and the others with him teleported to the room that had been blocked off, with no means of escape, and eventually succumbed to malnutrition.
SHIELD officials have refused comment other than to say that the investigation is ongoing and a report will be released when the facts are verified.

SBS: Darlington Armstech: Mk6 soon to be obsolete?
Enaj, Sivad - The producers of the RNS Fleet Mk6 sidearm, Darlington Armstech, are currently working on what they have dubbed 'the Mk6 killer' according to senior developers within the company.
"Currently we have something in the beta stages, designed to work with the pulse frequencies on which the weapon operations and block them within a small radius." One developer said, requesting anonymity. "Currently we want to release this to the RNS concurrently with the Mk8 sidearm in development, to force the obsolescence of the prior models."
The RNS Fleet Mk6 sidearm is a versatile energy pistol designed for both stun and lethal modes, made exclusively for the RNS.
Both the Admirality and Darlington Armstech refused requests for comment.

SBS: Sivadians First Party folds
GRAND ENAJ, SIVAD - The Sivadians First Party, formed by controversial scientist Lester Haskins, has gone into forfeiture after defaulting on balloon loan payments in recent months.
The party, formed in 3006 in reaction to the outlawing of psi-blockers, never really gained much traction, although Haskins kept a small staff working in a leased office on Montevedo Street.
Voter rolls show that only about 10,000 Sivadians switched their party affiliation in the weeks after Sivadians First formed, and contributions never amounted to more than a trickle.
Haskins could not be reached for comment.

SBS: Food company settles with family of dead journalist
GRAND ENAJ, SIVAD - TastyCo., the Sivad-based makers of St. Pierre brand kidney pies, have settled for an undisclosed sum with the family of journalist Pierce McLain Harris III.
Harris died two years ago after choking on one of the kidney pies produced by TastyCo.
"Mr. Harris's relatives understand that no amount of money can bring him back, but they are at least satisfied that the company has made some restitution for their loss," said Nils Hosteen-Graves, lawyer for the Harris family.

SBS: New book questions Kamir truth
GRAND ENAJ, SIVAD - Wynton Simon-Wheat isn't sure who or what is dwelling on the planet Nocturn. But no matter how much they want to call themselves Kamir, he just doesn't buy it.
Simon-Wheat, the xenoanthropology professor who first raised questions about this two years ago, has published a book called "Nexus of Truth." In the book, Simon-Wheat conducts a detailed examination of the rise of the ancient Kamir, the evolution of their Ri'Kammi minions, the Hive Mind's revolution, and the final conflict between both races that seemed to obliterate them all.
"Parallel to this struggle," Simon-Wheat told SBS, "we have the struggles between the Mystics of Val Shohob and their Timonae brethren, and the utter destruction of the Mystics during the Kretonian War. With the loss of the Kamir, the Mystics fell onto the hardest of times."
Led by Eye Mordecai, a contingent of Mystics left Val Shohob to travel beyond the Multiverse Nexus and returned just a couple of years later, claiming to have "ascended" to become the new Kamir.
"I maintain that whatever they have become, it is not Kamir," Simon-Wheat said. "For all we know, they are not even truly the people who left this galaxy to explore beyond the Nexus. They may be nothing more than puppets of a more advanced race with a darker agenda than we have yet to imagine."

INN: Senate approves Luna repairs
HESPERIA, MARS - The Solar Republic Senate has approved an initial appropriation measure to fund 1-billion credits in repairs and cleanup for the domed cities on Luna.
"It is time for Luna to put the horrors of the Phyrrian War behind it," said First Consul Darian Ellesmere after the unanimous Senate vote. "The Republic will do whatever it must to help them in this effort."
Millions of Lunites died after Phyrrian nanites disabled atmospheric systems in the domed cities during the war. Experts estimate it will take about a year to remove all the bodies and rebuild and test vital atmospherics.

INN: Gillgummer grants good goop?
DEEP SEA TECHNICAL PLATFORM, G'AHNLO - Alarbalop, a top scientist with the G'ahnli technical conglomerate known as the Foundation for Research Yield (FRY), has announced that the dreaded gillgummer algae blooms may actually prove useful as an alternative energy source.
"Initial tests show that the algae, once converted into barrels of gray-green goop and strained of seawater, acts as a rather efficient fuel source for vehicles and generators," Alarbalop said. "It provides energy for power and transportation without the potential harmful side effects of polydenum."
The Foundation for Research Yield hopes to get the new alternative on the market within the next three months.

INN: La Terre industrial boom?
LA TERRE - Recent planetary scans on La Terre have been showing increasing signs of industrial capacity on the planet, and surprisingly most of it outside of New Paris.
The current amount increase in industrial production is unknown at this time, and will likely take a couple years to measure.
"This is very likely the result of foreign investors, or wealthy immigrants, taking advantage of available land and a sparse population with relatively little external regulation." said Morton Rit, former Sivadian bank regulator who now runs the La Terran Institute for Economic Freedom, a group based out of New Paris.
Currently there are no stated plans to attempt to verify the degree or type of industrial growth.

SBS: Datajack Prescriptions Entering Sivad Pharmaceutical Market
Ynos, Sivad - Early this morning, Sivadian pharmaceutical regulatory authorities approved the sale of datajack prescriptions on Sivad and within Sivadian territories.
Produced and manufactured by Long Research on Sivad, the prescriptions are designed to interface directly with a user's datajack. Currently the prescriptions available are exclusively for psychiatric applications with patients.
"This innovation promises to change the delivery of psychiatric medication from a highly imperfect chemical format to one which allows efficient and effective treatment of certain mental illnesses at their source." Spokeswoman Lindsay Algat said. Algat also said currently that there are no plans to attempt to create a version of the prescriptions that do not require a datajack to use.
Long Research is a company held entirely by Winston Thatcher.

SBS: Isherwood restoration a hoax?
Enaj, Sivad - Akema Akari, professor of political history at the University of Enaj, suggested some aspects of the Isherwood restoration may not be on as firm standing as previously thought.
On the Ikeopo Sunrise morning show, while promoting her new book, "Conspiracy in Enaj: Theories for the 31st Century", she said, "In the past several years, Sivadian conspiracy has turned far closer to political aspects than previous decades. Especially with the plots uncovered and foiled on Sivad." Referring to the unusually rapid changes of the government and other high level Sivadian officials in recent years.
"The Isherwood Restoration is one such conspiracy not yet acknowledged. Murky data in the first place, poor post-Unification record keeping, and just not enough data to acknowledge a monarch who returned in mythical fashion, let alone the inability to tell whether or not some of these officials are alive or dead." Akari continued shortly before the segment ended.
Neither Akari nor Isherwood House have replied to requests for further statement."

INN: Castor relief stalled
Ursiniru -- The group hijacking medical relief shuttles in late February appears to have taken to committing its crimes on Castor itself.
Since the 15th of March, there have been six armed robberies on medical transports traveling to outlying towns and a mortar attack on the Ursiniru landing pad. Kenneth Shinoda of Cabrerra Industries, a major supplier of the civilian aid, remarked to the press, "It is simply incomprehensible to me that someone could justify any further injury to this peace-loving people." He pledged that CI will seek additional security contracts to protect their hospital deliveries.
The official response in this largely peaceful and law-abiding society remains limited by the circumstances. The Solar Republic, however, continues to lend its assistance by escorting medical transports, posting guards at the landing pad and major hospitals, and continuing to sweep the forest for the perpetrators.
In further news, the Vanguard Command commented that they have reassigned the battlestation 'Hancock' to the recovering planet, a renewed sign of determination to see the job completed.

INN: No relief in sight for Castor
Headline: No Relief in Sight for Castor
Reported To: INN
Reported On: Sivad
Time Reported: Sat Mar 22 14:26:14 3008 (Sivad Mean Time)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enaj -- The escalating violence on Castor raises troubling questions about the support behind the attackers but brings no more suggestions on how they can be brought to justice.
Details on the perpetrators themselves have been sparse, due to the ongoing investigations and continuing communications difficulties. Witnesses report that the attacking vessels are mostly light civilian ships, though there has been one report of a heavily armed Atlas atmospheric bomber in the area.
The robberies have grown more violent since the 16th, when a Vanguard pilot was shot in the back and seriously wounded. Further attacks have left another soldier severely wounded and lead to the death of three local cargo loaders and at least one Marine. Two other Marines have been listed as missing in action.
This Monday, artillery fire on the recently rebuilt Ursiniru landing pad led to two more marine deaths, a scattering of small fires, and reports of several minor injuries. Though no ships were seriously damaged in this incident, engineers have suggested that that the landing pad has lost twenty percent of its already-diminished capacity.
The Vanguard has thus far reported to the press no successful captures of the violent criminals responsible.
